Embleton
Embleton is a small City of Bayswater suburb that was built almost all at once. The State heritage record describes it as, in effect, a public housing precinct that appeared very quickly between 1959 and 1963. It is named after George Embleton, a settler of 1829, and today it sits beside Morley Station on the Ellenbrook Line.

The housing
Because it went up so quickly, Embleton has an unusually consistent look: single-storey brick and tile houses of a uniform style. A 1998 heritage identification picked out McKenzie Way, Tassell Street and part of Broun Avenue as good examples. Many of the former State Housing homes have since been sold into private ownership.
Parks and recreation
Bayswater Waves, on the corner of Broun Avenue and Priestley Street, is the City’s aquatic centre, with pools, an indoor aquatic playground, hydrotherapy, a health club and a crèche. Broun Park at 180 Broun Avenue has a playground, barbecue, picnic shelter and an off-lead dog area. Embleton Golf Course on McGregor Street is a 9 hole City course.
Getting around
Morley Station, opened in December 2024, sits in the Tonkin Highway median under the Broun Avenue bridge, beside Embleton. Its bus interchange includes the high frequency route 950 to the city, UWA and QEII Medical Centre. Check Transperth for current times.
Education
Embleton Primary School is at 51 Priestley Street. Check the Department of Education’s intake areas for a specific address.
