Erskine
Erskine lies south of Halls Head in the City of Mandurah, between Old Coast Road and the Mandurah Bypass to the north and the Peel Inlet to the south. It is a residential suburb with retirement and lifestyle villages, a neighbourhood shopping centre and a conservation park on the estuary shore.
The housing
The 2021 Census counted 2,863 private dwellings in Erskine. Of the occupied ones, 79.1 per cent were separate houses, 19.1 per cent were semi-detached houses or townhouses and 1.9 per cent were flats. The City of Mandurah lists a lifestyle village and several retirement villages in the suburb.
Shops and cafes
Erskine Central Shopping Centre at 36 Wattleglen Avenue, on Old Coast Road, opened in November 2003. It is a single-level centre with a Coles supermarket, a Red Dot store and 12 specialty shops. The City also lists the Galbraith Loop Commercial Centre, and the Mandurah Quay Resort and Function Centre is in the suburb. Bus route 591 links Erskine with Mandurah Forum.
Parks and open space
Len Howard Conservation Park runs along the Peel Inlet shore. A 1 kilometre nature trail loops out from an information bay at the end of Glendart Court, crossing freshwater pools on a boardwalk. The longer Erskine Nature Trail, 6 kilometres return between Dampier Reserve and Marina Quay, has viewing platforms and a bird hide. The estuary here is part of the Ramsar-listed Peel-Harvey system, and the trail guide notes migratory waders in summer. The Novara boat ramp at Owen Avenue and Dampier Avenue has 45 trailer bays.
Getting around
Transperth route 591 runs from Mandurah Station to Erskine via Halls Head and Mandurah Forum, ending at Sticks Boulevard and Willoughbridge Crescent. Routes 593 and 594 run along Old Coast Road between Mandurah Station and Dawesville. By road, Old Coast Road and the Mandurah Bypass, now Mandurah Road, run along the northern edge of the suburb.
Education
Government schools across Old Coast Road in Halls Head include Halls Head Primary School on Oleander Place and Halls Head College on Casuarina Drive.
