Maylands
Maylands sits on a peninsula in the Swan River, just east of Mount Lawley and a short run from the city. It has one of the most distinctive housing mixes in inner Perth and a great deal of river frontage for a suburb its size.
The housing
Maylands is well known for its art deco apartment buildings, many of them from the 1930s and now sought after by buyers who want something with a bit of history. Around them sit character cottages and bungalows, and a steady supply of newer apartments and townhouses closer to the station and the river.
Eighth Avenue
Eighth Avenue is the suburb’s village strip, with cafes, small businesses and local shops, and it has a genuinely neighbourhood feel rather than a passing trade one.
The river
The peninsula gives Maylands long stretches of foreshore, walking and cycling paths, Bardon Park, the Maylands Peninsula Public Golf Course and the yacht club. For anyone who wants water at the end of their street without leaving the inner suburbs, it is hard to beat.
Getting around
Maylands station is on the Midland line, and the suburb has direct road access to the city, the airport and the eastern suburbs.
